Madhukar's introduction

I am NbS expert, one of the 1st Water Heroes of Bharat (India), a TED speaker, and a Recognized Global Top 3 Author on Water by Smart Water Magazine – Spain. I'm also recognized as an Innovator, Naturalist, Ecologist, Inventor, Entrepreneur, Biodiversity conservationist - due to the kind of work I've been doing for last one decade.

Though for over two decades I've been known across Bharat and South East Asia as an IT Communication Network Professional working for various equipment manufacturing multinational companies (since 1995 till 2016), from 2011 Istart woring on the environment domain, and finally in 2016, I left my flourishing career in IT, to work for the sustainability and climate change sector.

Top 3 pieces of advice to The Matcha Initiative (TMI) users ?
  • Environmental Restoration not for the planet, but for humanity.
  • Imagine what we got from our ancestors and what we'll be leaving for our future generations. If it’s the same, what we got, then we can sleep, if not, we need to work to make it equal.
  • Human beings are not God's gift to the planet, all life forms have equal right to life, and they have a symbiotic relationship with us as well.
How could you help TMI users ?

This is30th year of my industry experience, while 1st 20 years were in IT working withvarious MNCs, last almost a decade has been into environmental restoration andsustainability. Thus, I can share a lot when it comes to experience.

I've beentraining in various Universities and institutions as a guest faculty andspeaking in various national and international events too. Thus, I've beeninteracting with Youth as well. This also enables me to give career advice tothe young professionals.

Expertise in the following
What brought you to sustainability?

Due to my IT Career, working with MNCs, Iwas globe trotting for meetings, events and seminars and I'd experienced thatall across the globe the urban problems remained same - depleting ground Water, contaminated surface Water, reducing green cover and rising Air pollution. Allacross the globe, we have a problem of overcrowded cities with depletingnatural resources. Bad Air quality, sewage, depleting ground Water table, biodiversity losses, drinking Water availability, polluted Waterbodies, increasing GHG emissions, sanitation & hygiene issues, depletingagricultural production and declining farm profitability, Chemicals &Antibiotics in Human food chain, floods & droughts, Water logging and so on.

All these problems are the chain reactionof Water, Soil and Air getting contaminated. There was a need for a composite solution, and no one was working on that, everyone was working in silos. The availableapproaches in the market are trying to solve it separately, like the STP is notbothered about the air quality, SMOG towers don’t understand the soil healthand plantation drives don’t provision for Waterbodies, usually.

Since all of them are interlinked, theproblem can’t be solved if dealt with an approach in silos. And therefore, aholistic & sustainable nature-based solution can solve all of them in onego. This is where we step in as the only solution that solves plethora ofissues in one go.
That's how we started working in this space.

Which sustainable actions are you in charge of or have you implemented in your organisation?

Following are some of our inventions, that we utilize in our projects, after conducting the detailed study of the subject and collection of field data –
1.        Cownomics© Technology: resurrection of native ecology of Waterbodies & Wetlands to restore the ecosystem services from them, impacting Soil, Water, Air, Biodiversity, Ground Water correction & Recharge, outbreak of Water, Vector and Air pollution borne diseases in the vicinity
2.        Ecolining®: Using natural biodegradable material as catalyst to speed up the process of establishing an equilibrium between Soil, Water & Air in order to enable Water retention in freshly built Water structures
3.        EcoDredging®: In-situ decomposition and consumption of the bottom sludge deposits in any natural waterbody or wetlands to be rearranged for production of planktons to strengthen the aquatic food chain
4.        EcoDrainR®: The process of in-situ Rejuvenation of the natural flowing drain (non-concretized and non-covered) through plantation of shrubs and hedge plantation on the drain embankment to keep the water quality controlled “in-situ” conditions.
5.        MAGICC® (Medicine for Agricultural Growth & Integrated Crop Conservation): The new practice and methodology for making the farms go diseases, pests and weather resilient, chemical free, antibiotic free, reducing the input cost and catapulting the yield (quality & quantity).

Which challenges did you meet and how did you overcome them?

The key challenge in our sector is to make people understand that Nature doesn't have any concept of "waste" or "wealth", everything moves in a cycle. Nature doesn't do anything without any reason. It is our science which has a limited understanding, not the Nature.

Therefore, we need to realign our development strategies in complete harmony with Nature, in order to keep them sustainable.

What are you most proud of?

Our inventions, due to which we've earned accolades and recognition, and the impact we've created in lives of over 20 million people.
