Devanshi's introduction

I’m a Corporate Sustainability Consultant at Sustainable Living Lab, specialising in the practical implementation of sustainability projects. My work involves waste management in the MICE industry, ESG strategy and sustainability reporting for SMEs (GRI, IFRS, SGX), and certification and grant support. I also lead capability-building programmes, stakeholder engagement, volunteer mobilisation, public outreach, and project mentorship.

I’m an IFRS FSA Level 2 candidate and an approved EcoVadis consultant. My focus is on helping organisations translate sustainability ambitions into systems and actions that hold up in real operations.

Top 3 pieces of advice to The Matcha Initiative (TMI) users ?
  • Spend time on the ground. Speak to the stakeholders involved and understand the real problem before designing solutions.
  • Ground your solutions in the local context. Every place has its own systems, constraints and strengths, so adapt ideas to fit Singapore’s reality.
  • Share knowledge openly. The sector grows stronger when we learn from one another.
How could you help TMI users ?

1. I’m open to connecting with organisations exploring collaborations, especially around sustainability capability-building, community engagement or implementation projects where SL2’s expertise may be relevant.

2. I also mentor students and young professionals who want to understand the skills, pathways, and expectations of the sustainability field. Always happy to meet for a coffee chat!

Expertise in the following
What brought you to sustainability?

I’ve been drawn to community impact from a young age. In high school, I founded Paalan Foundation in New Delhi, a youth-led nonprofit focused on education, safety, hygiene and support for underserved communities. Working closely with students and volunteers gave me a clear view of how effective grassroots initiatives can be. It also showed me that many of the challenges we faced at the ground level were tied to decisions made much further upstream.

That realisation is what led me to explore sustainability beyond the nonprofit space. I wanted to understand how larger systems, organisations and industries shape outcomes on the ground, and how structured sustainability work can influence them. Moving into corporate sustainability became a natural extension of that journey: a way to apply the same purpose, but at a scale where operational and strategic decisions have broader and long-term impact.

Which sustainable actions are you in charge of or have you implemented in your organisation?

I co-lead sustainability implementation projects across waste management, ESG strategy, and organisational reporting. My work includes designing and piloting waste-management and circularity solutions for large venues, coordinating multi-stakeholder engagement, and mentoring students and volunteers involved in environmental outreach.

I support SMEs in ESG readiness through materiality assessments, sustainability roadmaps, and reporting aligned with GRI, IFRS and SGX expectations. Internally, I help strengthen our organisation’s sustainability systems through data processes, SOP development, capability building, and supporting our Eco Office certification efforts. I also deliver trainings for professionals on circular economy, sustainability governance, emissions, and green building practices.

Which challenges did you meet and how did you overcome them?

One recurring challenge in sustainability work is that people often operate in silos — within teams, across organisations, and even across the wider ecosystem. Everyone is trying to do good work, but without alignment, efforts become fragmented and progress slows.

My approach has always been guided by SDG 17, which is about partnerships. I focus on bringing the right people together early, creating shared understanding, and building solutions that feel co-owned rather than imposed. Whether it’s internal teams, vendors, SMEs, students or community groups, I find that most barriers soften once people see how their roles connect and how their contributions fit into the bigger picture.

It’s also why I’m keen to be a TMI Buddy: I value spaces where people can learn from one another instead of working in isolation.

What are you most proud of?

I’m most proud of my public-engagement work at large events, where I guide attendees on how to recycle correctly and understand Singapore’s waste system, including the pressure on Semakau Landfill.

Speaking with the public, answering questions, clarifying misconceptions, and helping them see how small actions contribute to national goals has been one of the most meaningful parts of my work. It reminds me that change doesn’t only come from frameworks and strategies; it also comes from honest and practical conversations with the public.
