Upstream:

  • conduct a bin inspection to identify opportunities in reducing waste and supporting communication efforts to recycle right. This can be part of a waste audit.
  • recyclable and valuable materials are: cans, plastic and glass.

It is interesting to train staff and start segregating bottles (plastic, aluminum cans...) as Singapore has a beverage bottle buyback system (Deposit Refund Scheme DRS - part of the Packaging EPR) coming live in 2022 and will build a bottle PET recycling plant for it.

Downstream:

  • make sure that the contractor is properly licenced to handle general waste.
